School-Based Health Clinic
The School-Based Health Center at the 143 Campus is a joint project of The Center for Community Health and Education at The Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia Univeristy and The New York Presbyterian Hospital Ambulatory Care Network.
The School-Based Clinic is located in Room 101, and is open Monday through Friday
from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Their telephone number is (212)740-6334.
Clinic Services include:
- school health services (vision and hearing screening, immunizations)
- complete Physical Exams for school entry, sports, working papers, etc
- management of chronic diseases such as diabetes and asthma
- reproductive health care
- laboratory screening tests
- mental health services including individual, family, and group counseling; crisis intervention and case management
- health education for prevention of high-risk behaviors
- vision prescriptions including free eyeglasses
- dental services or referrals
Parental consent is needed for most clinic services. Please visit the School-Based Clinic to obtain consent forms. All services are FREE. Medicaid is accepted and help with getting health insurance is available.
All of the services of the clinic are CONFIDENTIAL under New York State law. In addition, federal HIPAA law requires all health care providers to protect the privacy of individual health information.
All clinic staff encourage teens to communicate with their parents and regularly engage parents in family discussions and counseling. The Center also offers workshops and courses designed to help parents understand issues of child and adolescent development around sexuality, as well as other topics of interest to parents.
